Memorial Day weekend has come and gone, and that can only mean one thing. Summer has begun on White Lake, and it is glorious.
The boats are making their way back on the water, the grill smells are drifting through downtown Montague, and our lakeview balconies are calling your name. Pack your sunscreen, because this summer bucket list is ready for you.
π² Pedal the Hart-Montague Trail
Kick things off on two wheels! The Hart-Montague Trail is a beloved 22-mile paved trail that stretches through the heart of West Michigan, winding past farms, forests, and charming small towns. It’s flat, family-friendly, and absolutely stunning in the summer, plus itβs right outside our front door! Pick up a bike rental at Waterdog Outfitters β our neighbors just steps from the inn β and hit the trail at your own pace. Whether you’re out for a quick spin or an all-day adventure, this is the top of the list for Michigan summer fun.
πΆ Get on the Water with Happy Mohawk Canoe Livery
Just a few miles from the inn, Happy Mohawk Canoe Livery offers canoe, kayak, tube, and raft rentals for a lazy float down the scenic White River. The crystal-clear water, wooded banks, and gentle current make it perfect for families, first-timers, and anyone who just needs to unplug and drift for a while. Spot herons, turtles, and wildlife along the way β this is Michigan at its most peaceful way to unwind.
π΅ Tuesday Night Concerts in Montague
Every Tuesday evening through the summer, the Montague-Whitehall Rotary Band ShellΒ hosts free concerts that are pure small-town magic sponsored by the Arts Council of White Lake. Grab a blanket, bring a picnic, and let the music float out over White Lake. It’s the kind of evening that reminds you why you love summer in Michigan.

It’s a wonderful way to spend an evening. Dress up a little, enjoy the performance, and then stroll back through downtown Montague. Keep an eye on their summer schedule for current shows and ticket info.
π Sunset at the White Lake Channel
This one is non-negotiable. A sunset at the White Lake channel β where White Lake flows out to meet Lake Michigan β is one of those views that genuinely takes your breath away. Grab a drink, find a good spot, and watch the sky turn every shade of orange and pink over the big lake. Locals will tell you it’s hard to find a more beautiful sunset anywhere in Michigan, and we wholeheartedly agree.
π 4th of July Parade & Fireworks
If you can plan your visit around the 4th of July, Montague puts on a fantastic celebration with a classic small-town parade. Fireworks over the lake will be on the 3rd at dusk, so donβt miss it! It’s festive, it’s fun, and it’s the kind of community event that makes you feel like you’ve always belonged here. Book early, this is one of our most popular weekends of the year!
ποΈ Zip Lines & Adventure at Muskegon Luge
Looking for something a little more adventurous? Head over to Muskegon Luge in the summer months for zip lining, wheel luge, rock climbing, archery, and more. They even host accessibility days with adapted adventures so everyone can join in the fun. It’s a great half-day activity that gets the heart pumping before you come back to the inn to relax on your balcony.
π³ Explore Clear Springs Nature Preserve
