Michigan has long been a beer and winemaking paradise, yet it’s West Michigan specifically that has that essential climate and soil for growing its own hops and grapes. More than 160 microbreweries and 100 wineries have popped up in the state of Michigan, and we are proud to boast many of those locations in the White Lake area.
Summer Craft Beer and Wine Events
Sample West Michigan’s finest beers and wines at one of these premier summer events. Both are only a walk away from our lakeside hotel.
The Artist-n-Beer Craft Beer Tasting Event — With the purchase of a ticket to this event, you’ll get a signature tasting mug plus up to 12 samples of local craft beers. While you sip, peruse art by local artists or enjoy the music of live performances. Funds from this event support the Arts Council of White Lake.
The White Lake Wine & Jazz Event — Wine lovers can’t miss this packed summer evening. Michigan wine will be available for tasting along with live jazz by local musicians, appetizers, desserts and a silent auction.
Local Breweries
If it better suits your style, you can also head directly to a local brewery for a pint.
Fetch Brewing Co.—located in the beautifully renovated historic State Bank building in downtown Whitehall—is an essential stop in these parts. From the fruity and tropical flavor of “Aussie-Sauce” to the bitter, roasted undertones of “Bitters Wheat Porter,” Fetch Brewing Company is proud to serve a total of 7 fantastic microbrews.
In Muskegon and Grand Rapids—only a few miles south of our lake front hotel—there are several other breweries you can’t miss. Try the Pigeon Hill taproom or Unruly Brewing Co., both in downtown Muskegon, or check out Founder’s Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids.
Toast With a Glass of Mead (Honey-wine)
During your stay at the Weathervane Inn, we encourage you to try mead in addition to the local beers and wines.
West Michigan’s own Bardic Wells Meadery has been at the forefront of mead’s recent comeback in popularity. In fact, Bardic Wells of Montague was Michigan’s first licensed, commercial meadery. Try their fruity flavored Bing Bang—a blend of honey and black cherry—or take your tastebuds back 9000 years to the Traditional Mead that would have been in everyone’s cupboards during medieval times.
Your Local One-Stop Shop for Beers and Wines
Occasionally, you’re just looking for some brew or wine to take back to your lakeside inn for a quiet evening.
Montague Foods is only a 3 minute walk from our water-front hotel and features a large selection of excellent craft beers and wines. We invite you to buy your favorite beverage and bring it back to share in one of our luxurious guest rooms at the Weathervane Inn. Let it be the perfect ending to a great day in West Michigan. Here’s to seeing you soon!
