What Happens at Pumpkinfest?
Here are the main events planned for this year’s festival:
Arts & Crafts Fair
Enjoy perusing locally made arts and crafts of all kinds. Vendors will be selling their wares throughout the day — it’s the perfect time to begin shopping for all your Christmas and holiday gifts!
The Pumpkin Roll!
The annual Pumpkin Roll is a favorite of Pumpkinfest. Each year, thousands of spectators gather to watch participants roll their pumpkins down the hill — this year, Ferry Street. According to longtime residents of the area, the Pumpkin Roll stems from a history of children rolling pumpkins off the backs of trucks at night — (trying to deter the local police, of course).
Registration for this event begins in the morning as the festival begins. If you’d like to roll a pumpkin down the hill, you can either purchase a pumpkin at the event for a few dollars or bring your own to roll for just the registration fee.
Farmers Market
From 9am to 1pm every Saturday through the end of October, you’ll find the Montague Farmers Market in full swing. On the day of Pumpkinfest, it’s no different. Enjoy the fresh produce and locally-made baked goods, honey, maple syrup, and more. The market will be located in the exact same location as Pumpkinfest.
Other Activities for Kids
Kids will especially love Pumpkinfest as there are numerous games and activities designed just for little ones. These include face painting, pumpkin painting and carving, free hay rides, and a pumpkin seed spitting contest! There will also be a pumpkin pie contest and a biggest pumpkin contest.
And for those with rumbling tummies, no need to worry! The event will have numerous yummy food vendors as well as a bake sale and a real apple cider mill with fresh cider available.
